I have this two cycle engine and would like to know the effects of a bad condensor would have on an ignition system. Also how do you test the condensor.

the condensor controls the spark ark at the points contacts.

With an ohm meter check for continuity between the wire and base of the condensor. The meter should start high and move to "0".
Then reverse the polarity, and it should do it again.

A shorted condensor will not let it fire.An open condensor will burn the points up quick.

It will be hard to start or will run very rough.

Sorry, I don't know of an easy test for a condenser. However, if you are not getting a good spark and have checked everything else, the condenser is a good bet and they are pretty cheap so if a new one doesn't solve your problem you aren't out a whole lot.

If your condenser is bad the engine will not strart as there will be no spark. this is one of the least expensive parts in the distributor. I would purchase a new set of points as well.
