If it sat for a few months with gas in it, the carburetor ports are plugged with old icky evaporated gas\oil mix.

How long ago did you last use it?

Also, did it run right up to the point where you shut it off (i.e. didn't stall out and you put it away thinking it was just out of gas)?

Often what happens with small engines is that the gasoline goes "stale" from one season to the next, and stale gasoline makes for hard starting.

Add some fresh gasoline to the tank if you can get at least 1/2 tank in there, otherwise drain the old stuff out (it'll work okay in your car if you have at least a couple gallons in the tank already) and replace it with fresh gasoline.

I add a gasoline preservative to all the gasoline I use in lawn and garden equipment.

yeah go to practically any parts store (Autozone, Oriely's, NAPA, ect...) and buy a can of Either or Starting fluid it comes in a aerosol can just spray it in the carbuerator and let it rip.
If that dont work make sure that u have spark if u dont have spark theres nothing to ignite the fuel

does it have fire? Pull the plug connector and put it barely over the plug..then try to start it watching if you have spark...if there is no spark...the plug needs replaced. if not give it a good cleaning...and put new gas in it...or mixture...
