2/3x + y = 0
2/3x - y = 8
=========

whats the easiest way to do this?

Step 1) Add the two equations so that the y cancels out therefore leaving it to solve for x: (2/3x+y=0)+(2/3x-y=8)

Step 2) Solve for x: 3/4(4/3=8)

Step 3) Substitute x=6 into either equation (I put it into first) therefore solving for y: 2/3(6)+y=0 4+y=0

Step 4) Solve for y: y=-4

Step 5) Write answer in (x,y): (6,-4)

P.S. (Toward person who said no solution) I proved there was a solution to this equation.

Do you notice that one equation has +y and the other -y?
That's a clue that elimination is the best method.

Add the 2 equations to get
(4/3)*x = 8
So x = 6
Substitute this back in any of the equations to get
y = -4

solve both of them simultaneously
2/3x + y = 0
2/3x - y = 8
=========
4/3x=8 (by adding both eq)
x=6
now plug it in any one
2/3*6+y=0
y=-4

therefore ans is x=6, y=-4

ADD:-
(4/3).x = 8
x = 24 / 4
x = 6

4 + y = 0
y = - 4

Solution is x = 6 , y = - 4
