You've probably got a blank cell directly above the last one (excel adds up cells that have data in them and so stops when the data stops).

Click sum and highlight with your mouse the range of data that you want to add up then hit return.

write '=sum(first_cell:last_cell)'
into the cell.
The sum will appear in your selected cell.
