Why is it that when you're driving and looking for an address, you turn down the volume on the radio?

So that you can talk to yourself or whoever else is in the car.

I think the reason I do that (and I always do) is because it takes away from my concentration. Just don't make the same mistake I made as a teenage driver once. I was backing out of the school parking lot and at the same time, I was lighting a cigarette while locating a radio station, and whop!, there went a teacher subs fender!

Probably for the same reason that you do when someone asks you if you smell something...I think it is a subconscious thing telling you that you pay attention to your other senses more if you are using another one less...this is in no way scientific, just a discussion my friend and i have had for years.

you cant concentrate on 2 things at once like when i talk to my friend on the phone and watch tv i cant concentrate on both ill end up watching tv instead so i have to mute the tv
