I like Tyra's show for the most part when i watch it. It's much better than I ever thought it would be.

Most talk shows are Oprah clones - Oprah popularised the format 20 years ago. Tyra's not original, but neither was Ricki Lake, Jerry Springer, Crystal Rose, Vanessa Feltz, Trisha, Jenny Jones, Montell Williams, Geraldo Rivera, Sally Jessy Raphael, Maury Povich... Tyra's just the latest in a long line. She's a great looking hostess, but then she is a former supermodel.
Like Oprah, she puts an emphasis on human interest stories, personal growth, and encouraging her target audience (young women in her case) to be more accepting of themselves. Not that I've watched it or anything... ;-)

Tyra is nothing like Oprah.. The only things they have in common is that they are Black females.
Tyra is much more like Ricki Lake than anyone else.
Nothing under the sun is orginal anymore.
Oprah has a purpose and her shows never delve into things like Celebrity fit club and Girls gone wild.
Tyra is for a younger audience. Two completely different shows.

Tyra Banks is so phony!
I was even an audience member at her show. I've been an audience member at other shows, and at every other show, at the end of the taping, the host AT LEAST thanked everyone for being there and was very polite.
Tyra Banks, never, at any point acknowledged the audience. Personally, I think that she could have at least said a quick "thank you" since these people are obviously her fans, and without fans, she doesn't have a show. But she practically ran off the stage.
Not to mention, the show I was there for was the "Meth Makeovers" show, and the funny thing is, whenever the cameras were rolling, Tyra would have her hand on their leg or shoulder, or be leaned real close to them, and as soon as the cameras were off, she looked totally disinterested. It was all an act for the show, including their "big hug" at the end that they had to film twice. It was just so fake.
I always though Tyra seemed very down to earth on her show, but she was FAR from it. I wouldn't go see her show again if they paid me.

I'm not keen on either show. However, I think Oprah can have more depth in one episode of her show than Tyra can in one week. I saw her Fat Like Me "experiment". Hypocritical, might be too strong of a word, but it was pathetic. She is in an industry that glamourizes skinny = pretty; An industry that says one has to be thin to be "pretty". So, it's little wonder, with the way American culture is, that people find "fat" people unattracive. Looking back, I wonder how many people they had to find to ostracize her, or how many hours of tape they made just to make it look bad.
Then I saw her little speech about how it was unfair that the media was talking about her weight gain and how it was none of her business and that she was at a healthy weight, blah, blah, blah. Again, if you didn't put yourself in the spotlight and in an industry that glamourizes skinniness, it wouldn't have been a problem.
I recently heard her on one of the morning talk shows about how she is doing something to "empower" women that it's okay to be the weight they are. Yet, she also said something to the effect of that she tries to maintain a healthy weight, but will lose some weight for appearances, like for her model show. Again, she seems to be contradicting hereself. If it was "really" okay, then she wouldn't lose the weight to make herself look good for the apperance.
Ugh.
She replaced Jane Pauley's show, I guess. THAT was a very good show.

It's just a bit of fun - I can't really criticise it. To me (a 20 year old) her show's more interesting than Oprah's because she's younger, fun, pretty and she incorporates the fashion world into her show so it's much more interesting from that perspective. Granted, we've seen the whole 'chat show' thing before but I think she has put a fresh spin on it. I also watch America's Next Top Model and I do find it interesting when they bring contestants from that onto the show

A good looking hostess in Oprah territory. But she puts her own spin on the show however.

I agree with "ME" 100%. Yeah the show is somewhat like Oprah's (which is a good thing!) however, she is more appealing to the younger audience b/c for one- SHE herself is younger than Oprah and she incorporates her modeling with the show and thats what makes them different. She seems to have more fun on her show and I like that. All the people on here who have something bad to say about her are probably phony themselves.

I think it's the former; the show is basically like Oprah, only trashier. It focuses on race too much and tries to incite racist remarks from people. I've seen it maybe 6 times, and one of the episodes was about racial stereotypes. They asked a white guy what his initial reaction was of some ghetto-looking thuggish black guy, and the white guy said his honest reaction (that the guy was probably a criminal, etc). And Tyra and all the panelists got so angry... they were trying to get a racist remark out of that guy so they could be mad at him. I just think it's a really trashy and unproductive way to look at racial divides... Oprah can talk about racial problems, but do it with class.
