consider a tax system that only provided deductables to the poor , think about being able to fill out your taxes on a single postcard , ponder the thought of having to pay only ~10% of your income to the government , now consider how much good that saved income would do for the economy

But don't worry about lost government revenues, this system would boost national wealth by $5 trillion (according to Dale Jorgenson of Harvard) . Hate it when the wealthy can just hire a creative lawyer and skip out on their taxes? Consider this practice over with the incredible Flat Tax. .These are just a few of the advantages of a flat tax.

I advise you to read the complete premise before posting.

I would love to see a flat tax system implemented. With it's implementation, the feds must forbid states from collecting their taxes both on income and property and begin doing what used to be a good thing - that is funding all the programs needed for America. States (those that collect income tax and property taxes) are double taxing people and it must stop. There should be NO sales tax, just one flat tax that the feds collect and NO deductions for anybody or any business. Along with the flat tax, the churches need to be taxed as well. It has NOTHING to do with separation of church and state. It is time that EVERYONE pay their fair share. I will bet, if the flat tax was implemented, America would be running in the black and there would be no deficit as there is now!

I love people who think the poor don't have "skin in the game" as if the economy does not effect the poor. Yes,10% of $1,000,000 is more in raw dollars than the same 10% of $25,000. What's is the effect ? At the higher income, the impact is much less than at the lower. The lower income still has to live, eat, pay utilities, get to work and God forbid educate a child hoping for a better future. This level of income already exhausts most if not all of its income for survival and is taxed again (sales tax) on the consumption. Where is the room for savings or investment or home ownership, 3 of the ways out of poverty ? What tax rate would reduce the $1,000,000 to the level such that the same % of income were required to meet basic needs ? That is why "flat tax'" is unfair. If the very rich are for it, why do you think that is ? It's simpler ? For whom ? The accountant and tax attorney ? Or could it just be as simple as, it helps "us" who cares what it means to "them".?

I can think of better than the flat tax.

Ever heard of the Fair Tax? (www.FairTax.org)
We should abolish the Federal Income Tax and replace it with a national sales tax. I'm not going to go into details, but its very simple, clear, and transparent. Go read up on it. And if you agree with it, support the only Presidential candidate who would work to implement it, Mike Gravel. (You can also read about the Fair Tax on Gravel's campaign website)

After reading your link, I am still opposed to the flat tax. Instead I think we should a federal sales tax, the fair tax. This way everyone pays: the rich, the poor, the middle class, the illegals, even the foreign tourists contribute to our economy.

So... if I make $25k a year my tax would be $2,500, but if i make $25 million my tax tax would be $250k...

Seems to me that $2,500 dollar would be MUCH MORE of a hardship to someone making $25k per year than to the millionaire.

Something just doesn't seem right about that scenario to me :(

The FairTax is the only reasonable way to go with the tax problem. Anyone who argues with it either hasn't studied it or is telling lies about it.

I want the money Cheney has made from Haliburton and it's subsidiary, which is curently doing business with Iran, to pay for the war deficit.
