I have a laptop connected to the net via a Ethernet cable to a Virgin Media cable modem.
Now how do i set up my desktop which is in another room?
I've ordered a cable router and usb adapter.
So does the router and the adapter go in the same room as the desktop?

That is what i was thinking, although i don't have the items yet.
To clarify it...
The laptop which has the net already is unaffected. In the other room with the desktop, the usb adapter just slots in a usb port and the rooter connects up to the desktop. Is this correct?

I'm quite happy to leave the laptop where it is, it's really getting the desktop setup is what i'm after.

Do you want to keep the laptop tied down to were it is now, or do you want to beable to use it anywere in your home?

This is how I would set it up.

-Cable from wall to Broadband Modem
-Ethernet cable from Broadband Modem to Wireless Routers WAN (Internet) Port
-Wireless USB Adapter installed on Desktop
-Wireless PCMCIA Adapter Installed on your Laptop

Thats it..... Then you will beable to roam with the laptop and have your desktop in another room.

with your router once you put the cable into it there should be another cord to where you can also put it into your desktop, so they should go in the same room.
