itself off. I then have to wait for it to cool before i can turn it on again. Do i need to install a new/second fan or are there alternatives? What would you recomend to solve the problem?

Since you were recently inside your computer, double check all your connections. You could have easily unplugged a fan cord.

Try running the machine with the case open and see if it's running any better. If it is it's probably because you're not ventilating the case properly and you may want another, better fan. They're cheap.

One other thing I usually do, is with the case open, and making sure you ground yourself to the case first, is to feel around the base of the PCI cards to check for excessive heat. I've had similar issues with graphics cards that got too hot. Find where the heat is coming from. Then go from there.

You either need to buy a new fan or you can go DIY and leave the case open with a desk fan blowing into it. It's loud but it cools it well.

Of coarse, you're creating twice the heat so it will overheat, buy another fan to help cool it down, youy could also try running it with the case off, but this leaves it more valnerable so i'd go with another fan

This is more likely a power supply problem, unless the machine reports an over-temperature on the board or chip it may be you need a higher power psu.
