It became extremely apparent to me yesterday while I was watching Eurovision, that places like the UK, France and Germany are worlds apart from countries such as Lithuania, Latvia and Slovenia.
I think that Western Europe, Eastern Europe, and Scandinavian countries should be separated into three different continents.
or is this a totally wrong way of thinking?

i quote terry wogan
"we might aswell build a wall now"
and yes i know scandinavian countries are west, but they have different ways of thinking to other 'western' countries.

you are totally right except scandinavia is western europe too... the eastern countries do generally make europe "tatty" and i think if it was to split it would benefit western europe alot. it is they're fault that they're poor... at the beginning every country had equal oppurtunities to be rich but odviously the better countries with better people are richer. we should split up

To be honest the worst songs didn't get the votes. The UK and Irish entries were horrendous.

Also i think it was very good that a Balkan country won especially a song that wasn't in English.

There maybe block voting but the consensus was that Serbia had the best song.

Democracy rarely is influenced by logic or talent, Eurovision and the US President are testiment to that.

As for building a wall, it seems a bit extreme. These countries were isolated for decades and now can express themselves on a European stage as the western nations have done while they were isolated. So maybe we should allow other cultures to interact with ours since cultures have always done this.

And it became extremely apparent to me while I was reading this question how a contest like Eurovision or a similar sports event cause division (from the part of the countries that just happened to lose), instead of inspiring the universal spirit.
Your thinking is not wrong: it's retrograde. People used to live in separate tribes in prehistoric times. And it's about Europe without frontiers, not instituting new ones.

It is really amazing how people have stupid reactions on something like Eurovision. It is very sad, actually. It suppose to be a musical show, nothing else. Some people are mad because they loose, and they loose just because they send terrible songs every year. People claim they don't watch it, they don't take it seriously, but yet it is not truth. Germany, UK, Ireland, had terrible songs, and that is what separates them from everybody else. Who in the world would vote for that? Somebody said that this differences are something that Europe actually make Europe, but it is also good arena for all xenophobes to show their frustrations. Really sad.

PS Just to add this: Eurovision contest isnt anything new for ex Yu republics, since Yugoslavia always participated in past, and I always watched that show, since I was child.

It's a totally wrong way of thinking. The beautiful thing about Europe is that it contains all these cultures, and the more we keep ouyr culture the more we can offer to our common co-existence. When people of the different backgrounds meet, you realize that our differences and all thsi multiplicity is what makes Europe interesting as a whole, but we are also deeply connected throughout history and in modern times.

First of all, Eurovision doesn't mean anything when it comes to geo-politics. Second of all, why are you not including the three Scandinavian countries of Norway, Sweden and Denmark as Western European, when they clearly are?

First of all Eurovision is very very lame. Younever even here of these singers. I am from Denmark and I hate this show because it seems to show the most untalented people out there just looking for a break. I had never even heard of denmark's singer this year or last year and will probably never here of them again. It's very odd acts on this program. Not top notch. Me and my husband laugh everytime someone new came on. Even our own country.

the world is fighting to be united.it is up to us to preserve our cultures

just because some countries did not vote the way you thought correct, you want to build walls back again ?!to separate people and draw the line between them?

I think you are not only wrong, you are veeeeeeeery wrong

and what do you mean with "are worlds apart" ? or by Slovenia in the same group with other two countries?
either you like it or not - there is a lot of new countries in Europe with great and respectable history and culture. and population.

btw, continent has to do with landmass not east, west and rest

Yes it's a wrong way of thinking.

Continent boundaries have nothing to do with cultural differences. Apples and oranges.

You are wrong, they just try to resolve the problems of the union and you want to separate them again...
