I was where you are now and took the bar exam and the bar preparation courses. Although what I am going to say now may be cold...it is the truth and reality. You finished 4 years of college and 3 years of law school to get to this point in your life. Now the only thing standing between you and being an attorney is passing the bar exam (upon which you will be licensed). You must now step back and take a cold blooded view on what you need to do. There is only one thing in your life that matters now--passing the Bar exam. The ex can go to hell, you dated him for only 18 months but you will be a lawyer for the next 45 to 50 years. The reality is that :you can always date different men: you can fall in love any number of times: you can marry and divorce as often as you want; BUT YOU CAN ONLY PASS THE BAR ONCE. This is your time and your chance...get it done and get it over with...THEN mourn all you want. You spent an enormous amount of money and time to get to this point in your life--finish what you started. You are making a choice now--to focus on a breakup of a guy you knew 18 months or to get your license you went to school for over 20 consecutive years (since kindergarden) to get. Look at yourself in the mirror. When you are a lawyer a client will come to you and put their fate, in your hands. Why should they risk it all on a lawyer who prioritizes her breakup of a bf of 18 months over her license test (who works 20 years and when they are within 1 test of reaching her dream drops the ball) ? This is YOUR moment and your decision not his. Make the choice to be the woman your parents raised you to be and who busted her butt to accomplish her dream. I am sorry that things worked out this way...especially at this time. However, the bottom line is that your hopes for marriage did not vanish. You (although painful) are rid of an unstable man who was not committed to your relationship. It is no consolation, but it is a reality that it is better now than after you were married or had children together. After you take the bar mourn all you want...but don't decide to quit when you are inches from the finish line. You deserve the recognition of accomplishing what you have worked so very hard for.

I set three goals for myself. One was to find a cure for cancer, another was to find a way to achieve world peace, and finally to put the bark dust around the flower beds. Well, one out of three isn't bad.
