Sunglasses won't prevent dirt from getting into your eyes especially when other vehicles are kicking up dust from the road. I would recommend proper riding glasses or goggles. These have padding on the inside of the glasses to prevent dust in your eyes. Since most state laws prohibit any kind of tinting for night riding, buy a pair that has interchangeable lenses so you can change to a clear lense at night. I learned my lesson with riding with regular sunglasses, I have had surgery on both eyes and I am only 45 years old and now I have to where corrective lenses. When you have to special order your riding glasses/goggles and pay the high price for these, you will wish you had used proper eye wear in the past. I can't tell you how many times in over twenty-five years of riding I had debris in my eye while riding and trying to pull over hoping nobody was broke down on the side of the road. It gets scary. Protect your eyes while you still can see clearly. Ride safe!!!!

In full sun (I live in northern California), darker glasses. In the trees, no (too much switching from full sun to blackness, eyes can't adjust fast enough). Always have a full face helmet with the visor down (maybe cracked for high heat or humidity situations).
The glasses I prefer have minimal frames, stiff arms (not B&L aviator style, e.g., hard to push them past the cheek pads on the helmet). I personally find polarized lenses a mixed bag. I would use them and have - they're best against the glare of tar snakes and windows but they also change the amount of glare they filter out as you pass things (so maybe as you approach the car on the right there's no glare from the mirror but as you pass the protection goes down and you catch a 'glint' of motion just as you're passing - even though nothing has actually changed - I find that distracting).
You must protect your eyes at all costs from insects, dust, ROCKS.

Yes, ofcourse you need to protect your eyes from debris, as well as from the sun. There are lots of styles to choose from. Glasses that wrap around are good for protection, but goggles are the best. I have a pair that have changable lenses (clear for night, dark for sunny days, and my favorite shade is the yellow which is good for sun or night driving).
Every state has different laws on helmets and passager helmets (some states the driver doesn't need a helmet but the passenger does. Kids always need a helmet). Eye protection is mandatory in every state - plus it good make sense to protect your eyes. When your traveling at any speed, the tinyest debris could blind you.

I always wear a helmet, so I bought two different shields. One is tinted and has a silver reflective surface. The other is regular clear. Easy to swap out. Before that I did, but theyre not very comfortable under a helmet. Always wear something on your eyes cuz the bugs can cause you to crash!!

Yes, but they are made specifically for motorcycling. They wrap around to keep wind and debris out of the eyes and are made of a more impact resistant material than typical glasses.

All the time. Have two pair in case it gets a little to cloudy or get caught out after dark. Not only does it keep the wind, dust, flying insects, dirt and occasional bird sh** from hitting you in your eyes they look cool too.

Yes it reduces glare, but be sure to have clear glasses with you. You never know when it will cloud up.
