Better to abort than bring up an unwanted 'unloved' child. Its not to do with religion, its about personal choice. People with no regard for contraception should have a bit more thought though.

I don't like the idea of abortion, being that there are so many people out there desperate for a baby who can't have one, and I also think it's a decision that we really don't have the right, as human beings to make. Then again, I am in a stable relationship and I have been around younger children forever, so I would be ok if I happened to get pregnant right now, if I did not have my boyfriend or the support of my family I can see why it would terrify so many people.
I think the abortion rate should be lowered because at twenty four weeks the baby is perfectly formed, just too small, and some born at that age have actually survived, but other than that I think we should stay out if it, nobody can tell someone what to do until they have been in the situation themselves.

Good question.
I never had any really strong views until I was pregnant in the early 80's. I wasn't married and the first thing the GP asked me was "what did I want to do?"
I decided to have my baby. Times have moved on; I have supported friends who have chosen to have an abortion.
Its a personal choice; unfortunately some women use it as a form of birth control. I disagree strongly with that.
If a woman is unmarried now it seems she has the sole right to decide on the future of the unborn baby. Men do not seem to have any say in the matter. I know it is a mine-field but its something that should be considered.
I believe that, if abortion is going to be an option; it should happen as early in the pregnancy as possible. If the man wants to be around then he should be involved in the choices available.
I couldn't do it myself but I have no problem with the concept, as long as it is well reasoned.

hi as you said it offers a good debate whenever it comes up!
here is my view -
it is available as an option - i think it should be available as there are many difficult circumstances to consider -
examples
if a woman is raped/abused - why would she want to carry on with the pregnancy?
If a young girl ie - 13-19 falls pregnant i feel that it is more than responsible for her to terminate than lessen her options of a successful career & quite probably end up as a single parent - not that i think ill of single parents but it is proven to be better for 2 parents to raise a child than 1.
It also opens the debate about children having children.
The option is also there for termination of problems with the baby or mother - why should a woman feel she has to continue with a pregnancy knowing the baby will never grow to become depend? or be in pain? or die prematurely?
I also believe that proven abusers should NOT be allowed to have children - hysterectomy should be compulsory for women who hurt children but as it is not, then an abortion is fairer than bring a child into this world to be abused.
I think that all humans can make mistakes - it is there as an option & providing all options have been thought out an informed option is allowing an informed approach & decision to be made.
It should be a decision that is well thought through as whatever the woman decided she has to live with her choice forever.
Incidentally i do disagree with the new test that allows from 6 weeks to know the baby's sex - A healthy baby is all you should want, not selective son/daughter, I think that this should only be used where medically the woman cant carry a particular sex of baby.

I don't have a problem with it..its the womens body and she has a right to do as she wishes...no one is really happy about an abortion or really loves an abortion..i just think a women should have that right to make a choice about her body...i don't feel that a man should have the right to tell a women what she can and can't do...

I believe abortion is wrong. I grant you that in some cases it may be necessary, but only as a last resort. After a very short period (I'm sorry I don't know the exact amount or time but I know it is a very short time) there is a heart beat. If there is a heart beat there is life.

I was discussing this with my mother yesterday, we think there should be a limit on the nuimber you can have without having your reproductive system halted in some way.
I don't think that a rape victim should be forced to keep a rapists baby, nor give birth to that child only for it to end up in a children's home.

OK, it's basically infanticide, yes?
But what if the child (ie foetus/embryo) is so messed-up that it can't have a worthwhile life? You have to make-up your own mind about what is worthwhile. And if the mother is in serious danger if the pregnancy is allowed to continue, or pregnant through rape? It's such a minefield!
I would prefer to judge each on its own merits. if I had to judge at all.

Abortion is MURDER, even from a biological point of view. After fertilization (when the female's egg cell and the male's sperm cell unite), the number of chromosomes of the fertilized egg already equals that in a man's body cells; therefore, it may appear tiny and very helpless, but it are already ALIVE. Any steps taken to intentionally decrease its chance to survive is murder.

I agree with it in the right circumstances. But if a women as a abortion because neither her or the partner can be bothered to take proper precautions then that is a different matter.
