I think you should be able to wear whatever makeup you want.
You've seen a lot of different kinds of answers reflected here. Some of these people suggest you match your eyeshadow color to your clothes. Some of them suggest you wear a different color that "goes" with your clothes. Some of them think you should wear neutrals always. This is because everyone has a different idea of what they like.
I've heard the not matching your eyeshadow rule. I suppose it makes sense that if you're wearing navy blue, that navy blue eyeshadow might look strange. But what about a light baby blue? Or baby blue with navy eyeliner? I think it depends entirely on what your taste is and how bold you want to go. Some people like their makeup to look natural, others like it to be wild, other people like it flattering. Try it on and if you like it (for whichever reason), then do it.

It is just too much. Honestly I think any eye shadows rather than neutral colors look tacky. Like it would look bad if you did and didn't match it... think of someone wearing blue eye shadow with a orange top.. that would look just as bad as someone wearing blue eye shadow with a blue top. Everyone should just keep with the browns, bronzes, golds, tans, etc.

It's merely a matter of taste, but it has the effect of making subject look very monotone. I only wear subtle amounts of eyeshadow myself, which makes the particular hue matter less. I go by dark outer corner / light inner corner / highlight crease

Let's see. If you are wearing a blue sweater, you will look tacky. Trailer trash. If you are wearing a purple sweater, you will look like a giant bruise. If you are wearing a black sweater, well, I don't know what you'd look like, but I'm sure the goths will love you. Those are just some examples.

Because you want people to look at you, not at your makeup. Makeup should be worn to enhance your natural beauty. Keep it natural looking and your makeup will help you look more beautiful and will go with all of your outfits.

becuase thats what people do in the 80's. now?? it'll be too matchy matchy. now, you try to apply make up to define features and hide some flaws, most of all, the natural colors.
