Hi i have just a thing come up saying virtual memory to low.
It's never come up before and i can say there is not a lot of programs that run on my computer, it's not full. I dont download stuff and i defrag often and do disc clean-ups.
I have read other comments about virtual memory to low and what to do but when you don't know anything about computers and people say press this, go to this, do that without explaining properly word for word then it's difficult and i don't want to mess up my computer.
When explaining to people who don't know a lot on this subject, in other words, i would be grateful to someone who can actually talk me through it as so to speak.

A bit like .. first do this, next do that and so forth..
Not saying i am thick but some people just know more about computers than others. Grateful for any help.
Regards
Julie

basically julie, virtual memory is a part of your hard drive that windows uses as if it were proper ram(memory)
virtual memory is normally 1.5 times the size of your system memory, for example if your running 1gb ddr ram, then your virtual memory will be 1.5gb
to check your virtual memory settings in more detail then right click "my computer"then click the advanced tab then click performance>advanced>virtual memory
however its best to leave your virtual memory settings to the recommended size, which will be displayed on the virtual memory settings page
the "virtual memory too low" warning will appear if you use a memory intensive program which uses all the avalible system and virtual memory, when this warning appears just stop what your doing and let windows make up the virtual memory page file
however if this message starts to appear more often then its normally a good idea to think about upgrading your p.cs ram(memory)
most modern memory is relatively inexpensive these days, with 512mb ddr2 modules costing around £30
and with some memory modules as large as 1gb(http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=237278)for around £50 this is a ideal time to think about a upgrade
any more problems julie let me know
good luck!

I have spent some time on this, and hopefully this is clear and will be of help to you. Happy computing!

Virtual memory is actually the space in your hard drive which is used in lieu of main memory (RAM) when the RAM cannot provide for all the memory reqirement. In Windows, there's a file called Virtual Memory Paging file which is used as the read-and-write space for the virtual memory.

As hard-disk memory is very much slower than RAM, virtual memory is a compromise. The size of the paging file (hence, the amount of virtual memory) is set by the OS and when some memory-intensive applications (like games, as in your case) request more memory, the size of the paging file is increased and you see a message "Virtual memory minimum too low ...".

To display the page file settings and to change them:

Right-click "My Computer" and select "Properties" and goto the "Advanced" tab.

Click "Settings" under "Performance".

On the "Performance Options" dialog that pops up, goto the "Advanced" tab.

Click on "Change" under "Virtual Memory".

Now you can set the maximum and minimum amounts of virtual memory for your system. If you have plenty of hard-disk space available, set them to a huge value like 500 MB - 1 GB, though it is not going to increase your performance much, as virtual memory operates at a slow speed. There would a recommended setting from Windows, choose that as your minimum and its double as the maximum size for your virtual memory.

If you use the Internet then you do download stuff. The way the Internet works is that you connect to a server and the server downloads files to a folder called Temporary Internet Files on your local C drive. Those files and images are then assembled to display a webpage from you local C drive. The more websites you visit the more you download.

You can clear out Temporary Internet Files (browser cache) by clicking on Tools and then Delete Files.

Ok, what you need to do is this:
(always on a 'left-click', unless I say otherwise!)
Go to: Start Menu, then "Run" & type: "sysdm.cpl" (without the quotes). A window will open up; see at the top? You should have 'tabs', click on the one that says "Advanced", now click on the very top 'Settings' button that appears underneath. More 'tabs'! Click on the one that says 'Advanced', then the button at the bottom of that windows that says 'change' (virtual memory settings). Click in the option that says 'System Managed Size' & then click the button to the right that says 'Set'.
You will have to re-start your pc for this setting to take effect, but after that your PC will "look after" the virtual memory for you.
Hope this helps.

try to defrag your system, its in your accessories folder. Try that an if that doesnt work, try and delete some of the start up programs (go to start>run and type: msconfig>start-up) and click off the things you dont want to start with your pc. Then, if that doesnt work, try deleting some programs you might not need.

2 techniques, the two improve RAM on your device or improve the paging record length, right here is how: good click on My workstation choose for residences from context menu device residences > improve > overall performance > Settings > Adavnce > digital reminiscence > replace Now regulate the paging record length, e.g. we could say its 1024 MB improve it to 1500 MB. determine you have sufficient disk area on Ur C: placing 1500 for paging record length will require a minimum of two GB of loose area on C:
