Is it a "crazy like a fox" statement? I mean I have three college degrees and earn more than probably 99.99% of the planet personally, in fact my whole neighborhood is filled with highly educated, entrepreneurial, free spirited people, inventors, engineers, doctors, builders professionals, artists. Sure there's a lot of dolts everywhere you go, but from where I am looking, I see that a lot of Ameicans are doing pretty damn good. So, who then again, is really dumb?

what the rest of the world doesn't want to admit is that almost 30% of americans hold a bachelors degree, by far the highest percentage of any society in the world. but they have to complain about something, so they dehumanize americans by saying we are stupid, fat, lazy, have no culture, and all the violence in the world is caused by us. if you go to europe you will hear people in france or belgium say that the US really didn't do much in WWII and they were just about to rise up against the nazis before we "invaded" europe. it is a way of diminishing american accomplishments and making themselves feel better. it has been done since the beginning of time. if you can dehumanize a group enough, it makes it easy to accept violence and hatred against them.

Maybe dumb isn't the right term.
We do tend to act like we are the only people in the world that matter. We rarely hear about anything that is going on in other parts of the world, unless we're involve in it somehow, yet other countries probably know what is going on here more then they do in their own countries. Not to mention that we do dictate our way of life among other people.
This maybe the reason why most of the world think Americans are "dumb"
By the way, I do go to college and I have met a lot of dumb smart people. Having an education may make you smart, but it does not not necessarily mean that it makes you intelligent.

It's the media's portrayal and stereotyping. Just read the answers on this "forum". This is what the "American" stereotype is. When "patriots" are people with uninformed viewpoints and the likes of Fox entertainment are popularized the result is an ignorant American stereotype.
May I just add that we need to lighten up. This is a chat group not an institution of higher learning. There is a place for slang and incorrect grammar.
Save the expertise for your thesis.

Look at this way.
We have a president who has virtually no grasp on the english language. A president who was RE-ELECTED.
Over in Religion&Spirituality (my usual Answers home), we have plenty of Americans who would love to see the scientifically accepted theory of evolution to be tossed aside in biology class to make room for religion's version of creation.
In my state, the biggest education system we have just underwent a huge reorganization because, despite the fact that kids have more technology and tools for education than ever before, but EOC test scores are pathetic.
What would you think, if you were on the outside looking in?

Why do people not know that "dumb" actually means "mute"? The word you are searching for is "stupid". So much for being college educated.
Additional: It's only recently been observed as being a colloquial for the word "stupid", and this only because people have been too stupid to use the word properly. The same is true of the word "ain't".

30% may have degrees but that's only because you have an excess of wealth and opportunity. This wealth has come from raping other countries of their resources and feathering your own nest. Dumb? possibly. Immoral? definitely.
