A few things could be going on here, especially if the betta is new.
A betta will spit out its food if its a new food that it isn't recognizing AS food. This happens if you switch its food or its new and you don't know what the pet store was feeding it. It will also spit out food if its being overfed (a bettas stomach is about the size of its eye). Sometimes if the food is too big (large flake) it will suck it in and spit it out until it softens. Being transferred from the store to home...or changing its bowl to a tank, etc..will also cause the betta stress and it won't eat until it feels more at home.
If none of this is the case, try feeding him bloodworms. They're the easiest accepted food. Make sure to change the water as it may be high in ammonia or nitrite (if you're keeping it in a small unfiltered tank or bowl). Don't always feed bloodworms though as it can cause constipation and bloat.

The food is too big for them. I think you should at least cut the food in smaller pieces.

Betta tend to do this when the food is too big, or too soft.

I tried the same thing as well. maybe you're overfeeding it or the food are too big and taking part of it

You are overfeeding it. Feed just as much as it will consume 2 times a day.
