my brother caught like 15 baby catfish about an inch long, he put them and some minnows in a 15 gallon fishtank that has guppies and a male betta fish. He didnt quarentin ethem or anything like that, he just dumped them in. I took my betta fish out cause i dont want it to get a disease but i cant do anything about the guppies and other unknown fish in there.

So my question is, is it ok to have the catfish in there (because i dont think it is), the tank is 15 gallons with about 25 1 inch fish. My dad and brother think its fine, but i think the catfish and minnows need to be put back in the lake, because this isnt a lake fish tank, its a guppie tank

what do you think

The lake fish may be carrying parasites or other sickness. In addition, your betta and guppies, etc are tropical fish and require warm waters. The catfish and minnows are coldwater fish and need to be reared in cooler waters.
If your brother caught channel catfish, they grow to about 40 lbs a piece. In a 15 gallon tank, it's already overcrowded and the water conditions are going to quickly (VERY quickly) deteriorate. The guppies are too small for the fish as well and will soon start "disappearing".

You can do it, but your guppies will end up as expensive fish food. Wild catfish eat continuously and grow fast. That big mouth ain't just for smiling.

I would not recommend it because the pond can carry some unknown diseases and parasites that you don't want in your tank. Tell your brother to take the catfish back to the pond where he found it.

I don't think you should keep them in there...

1) Way too many fish

2) Catfish grow huge!

3) They belong in a lake.

Show your brother and dad these answers.
