2002 c230 compressor noise on start up?

i have a c230 compressor with 17,000 miles on it when i crank it up hot or cold a noise comes from under the hood it almost sounds like an air or exaust leak then after a few seconds it like just shuts off not a fade out it just stops can anyone tell me what it is is it supposed to happen

Most newer cars A/C turns on briefly at startup to circulate the freon and oil through the system to keep the seals from drying out.

It's normal.
