are the back brakes the same as the front brakes?

The rear are pads. Different from the front. Part number for front is #699. Part number for the rear is #698. Make sure you 'turn' the rear calipers pistons in before installation. Good Luck.

No the back brakes are not the same as the fronts. The rear brakes use pads and rotors for everyday braking, but they also come with an internal drum and shoes for emergency/park braking. The brake shoes had a tendency to disintegrate on these types of cars.

They probably have brake pads, meaning that it has disc brakes. The best answer that I can give you is to go to a car lot and look for yourself. If you see a rotor then it has brake pads but if you see a brake drum then it has brake shoes.
