pro- allows government to construct projects which benefit more constituents, allows for fair(?) compensation for property seized.
con- infringes on property rights, introduces uncertainty thereby lowering property values and discouraging investment

Pros: the government can take someones land to build a road, bridge, or canal that will benefit a great many people. Let's say that they take someones land to build a bridge to an island where a 1000 people could live. Well, then a few people give up their land so that the bridge can be built at the right spot, where the distance is shortest.
Cons: when the government takes a great home or land away from someone to support a commercial center or some other activity that doesn't need to be right there. Lets say a family owns a beautiful farm that they have taken very good care of. Then Walmart decides it wants to build a store there and the local government helps them out by taking the land and selling it to walmart. Sure, some people can by their cigarettes closer to home now, but the beautiful farm is gone.

Pro - allows the government to build roads or other things that benefit a great number of people.
Con - They can just come in and take away your land and use eminent domain for a reason. In our state, it is even legal for city officials to declare eminent domain, so if the city wants your land to build a new bank, they just yell eminent domain and it's theirs to do with as they wish. OVER MY DEAD BODY!

I am totally against eminent domain.Them laws were meant for the construction of infrastructure, not so some rich developer and money hungry city governments can seize property for profit.

I'm against it. These homes belong to someone and I'm sure they want to keep them in the family.
