I think you mean "occultation". An occultation is when one object passes in front of another and occults (hides) part or all of it. In exoplanet detection this refers to the technique of looking for stars with small dips in brightness happening at very regular intervals. The most likely cause for this variation in brightness is an orbiting body (planet) passing in front of the star and blocking a small portion of its light.

On advantage of this technique over the doppler method is that it is equally sensitive to planets in slow, distant orbits (assuming you have enough time to watch for them!) and planets in close, fast orbits. The doppler method favors large, fast-orbiting planets.

I think the occultation technique is when an exo planet passes infront of its parent star and disorts its light, or makes it dimmer
