Use after market... I use Fram filters ... they are better than factory and sometimes cost a lot less. A factory air filter for a Dodge I had cost me about $40.00... a Fram for the same car would cost about $6.00 and do the same job. You stated after sale so I assume this is the information you wanted to know.

There are after market filters that will improve your cars performance. As far as the part about non-factory it sounds like someone at dealership told you it would void your warranty or not work as well for you. I heard that alot over the years at the fast lube I managed. It is not true. As far as vehicle performance you can go to a performance shop or parts store and ask about filters such as K and N filters. They are filters that you clean instead of replace. They allow much better air flow. If you have other questions about using factory versus non factory drop me an email and I'll tell you more...

A performance air filter would make the car engine perform to a higher grade. If you look at a factory air filter they are usually in a black case and are much different looking from a performance one, if i was in your case and i needed to change the air filter i would go straight for a k&n. K&N are probably the most recognised air fliter company in car modification world.

K&N filters will foul up your mass air flow sensor due to the porous gauze material it uses. Hold one up to the light and you'll see what I mean. I would suggest looking at the Trueflow dual stage foam filter (trueflow.com) or the Amsoil NanoFiber technology filter (https://www.amsoil.com/storefront/eaa.aspx ). I personally run the Trueflow with the modular intake tube and couldn't be more happy with it.
