Even if the democratic party takes power in the next election, the war, and/or our military presence in Iraq, will definitely last well beyond 2009. A drawdown or withdrawal of troops in a country undergoing a forced regime change pays no attention to whether George, Hillary, Barack or any other person is in charge. More importantly, it is important that since the United States initiated the change, we have created a responsibility to stay until the Iraqis can function without our assistance. This is not a partisan issue, as much as both parties want us to believe it. It is a moral issue. Sort of like cleaning up messes when you make them.

The war won't end until after Bush leaves office.
The invasion of Iraq was an element of PNAC's insane and evil plot to establish a 100-year Reich in the middle east for the benefit of a handful of Us-based oil barons.
As long as Cheney is personally profitting from all the bloodshed, he isn't about to let it end.

The occupation of Iraq will never end until we have replaced oil. The world is making oil deals with each other and leaving the US out to dry do to out kill to save tactics. We have two options, war to secure oil to sustain our suburban lifestyle or tank the US dollar which would be a form of "Demand Destruction" and would get Americans off oil consumption and create a rich elite and peasantry class with one party rule.

First of all, there is no 'war' in Iraq. It's an unconstitutional, illegal military action declared by George W. Bush for three incredibly 'lame' reasons:
1. The Bush family has had a personal vendetta against Saddam Hussein ever since the days of Desert Storm when George H.W. Bush was ridiculed, criticized and humiliated for not 'finishing the job' and ousting Hussein at that time;
2. Dick Cheney and his Exxon-Mobil buddies want all that OIL swimming underneath Iraq's sands so they can keep feeding America's addiction to cheap, easily-accessible foreign OIL;
3. Ever since World War II, the giant U.S. military-industrial complex realized how profitable 'war' could be. So, they bought up all the politicians, hired pricey lobbyists, and formed special interest groups to promote and encourage more 'war'. Thus, the U.S. was involved in the Korean Conflict; the Cuban Missile Crisis; the Cold War; Vietnam and Desert Storm. A new 'war' was necessary to boost the sagging profits of our 'war industry'.
The 'war' will continue unabated for years. Even though Democrats claim they want to end it, they know that's not a likely scenario. So they'll play a typical political shell game with the American voters, puffing and pouting and acting like they're really making the effort. We will NOT ever pull out of Iraq until we've sucked every drop of OIL from that nation's sands. We don't want them selling "our" OIL to China, or any other developing countries.
If the plan is to get out of Iraq once we've brought democracy to that nation, WHY is the United States building the largest embassy in the world on a 104-acre site in downtown Baghdad, overlooking the 'new' Iraqi puppet government installed by the Bush administration?
The wealthy elitists, special interest groups, and "powers that be" from "behind the scenes" (who really rule this country) selected two OILmen to run this country at this crucial time in history. China's demand for OIL is becoming more pronounced, and we needed this 'war' to establish a presence in Iraq, which holds the second largest OIL reserves in the middle east (and the third largest OIL reserves in the world, second only to Venezuela and Saudi Arabia).
While the actual fighting might subside, there will be a U.S. military presence in Iraq for decades to come. The Bush administration has put American taxpayers TRILLIONS of dollars in debt, has killed 675,000 Iraqis, and 3,300 U.S. soldiers all for the sake of OIL and WAR PROFITEERING. Companies that are "Bush-friendly". such as the Carlyle Group, McDonnell-Douglas, Lockheed-Martin, Halliburton, Sikorsky, and Boeing, have made billions of dollars off this 'war', all paid for by the gullible American taxpayer.
Next stop: IRAN. Look for the Bush administration to seize the moment and illegally attack Iran before the end of this year. It will require another 'terrorist' attack on U.S. soil (this time it will be in the Midwest, probably St. Louis or Chicago). Then George W. Bush will announce that Iran was somehow responsible, and we must 'defend ourselves' from such terrorism. -RKO- 05/13/07

I think so. I think once we lose attention in Iraq, we would still have a low number of soldiers there like we have in Kosovo and Bosnia.

It's not and it doesn't matter which political party is in power. Right now, the Dems are simply using it to get back into power.
Politics at it's best. Anyone out there want to place any bets?

Until people become rational and come to a decision to compromise, war won't end. And I hope that our troops won't have to come home. If we let our defenses down, we will face another 9/11. It's sad but, true.
