I assume you mean what is the average price of the books ?
32 + 45 + 39 = 116
Divide 116 by three to get the average
116 / 3 = 38.6666666666. . . .
The average price of the books is $ 38.7 rounded to one decimal place.

Well to find the average you add all the numbers together and divide by the total number of items (if there are 3 number, divide by 3). Parentheses () mean you do the function inside them first and then the function outside afterwards. So A: you would be adding together the numbers and dividing by 3; B: you would be multiplying 32 by 3 and then adding that to the other 2 numbers. C: you would be diving 39 by 3 and then adding it to the other numbers and in D: you would be dividing 32 by 3, 45 by 3 and then adding the results together with 39. What do you think the right answer is?

To find the AVERAGE of any given set of numbers---you ADD all the numbers together then DIVIDE by the number of numbers in your list----for example---in THIS question there are 3 different costs of textbooks---$32, $45 and $39-- to find the AVERAGE--add all three numbers up the total is $116. THEN, divide the sum total of the costs ($116) by the number of TEXTBOOKS (in this case)---3... so your equation is ----$32 + $45 +$39 ÷ 3 answer A. on and in case you need to know, the answer is..$38.66 is the average price of all the books.

to find the average, add up all three items and divide by 3, the number of items.
in your choices above, you need to be aware of order of precedence. the answer cannot be C because according to precedence rules you would divide 39 by 3 and then add the other two numbers.
you need choice A. (32+45+39) / 3 where parenthesis have been used to first cause the addition of the 3 numbers and then dividing them by 3.
