It's a very good point. Hopefully if a reward proves not to be necessary then this money will be donated to a children's charity.

The problem is this. Now I'll probably get loads of thumbs down for being cynical - but here it is anyway.
There's a little thing going on here called Public Relations.
1 - The media whips up a story that captures the hearts of a whole nation.
2 - Some businessmen see it as a great way to draw attention to themselves as good caring people - so they offer a reward (cheaper than an advertising campaign)
3 - another businessman, not wanting to be outdone and also wishing to be perceived as good and caring ALSO makes an offer.
4 - the whole thing has a snowball effect. The more rewards being offered the more high profile the story becomes, the more high profile the more the opportunity for good publicity.
5 - Story becomes even MORE high profile, selling newspapers and rasing TV ratings.
6 - More businessmen either feel they HAVE to get involved and offer rewards, or also see it as good PR.
7 - I notice people are even canvassing on Answers for normal people like me and you to contribute to a fund to keep the McCanns out in Portugal. So now even normal people can get involved.
And that's how our crazy world works. Good night...

This always happens where the news media prioritise one story, one person over another.
It is out of proportion but it generates sales of newspapers and momentarily lifts the ratings of the 24 hour news channels.
I am sure a lot of that money could be used to help locate the thousands of missing kids in the UK who are probably now entrenched in prostitution or being abused and at the mercy of paedophile rings, with no hope of rescue.
But then I suppose these missing kids tend to be working or lower class and don't warrant the same level of attention or care.
I hope there is a happy conclusion to this case.
We can only speculate as to what might have happened to her and what is happening to her still and I pray for her to be found safe and unharmed.
Every child is priceless and the press should be this voracious over every child that goes missing, not just the select few.

Don't you see? The money is for one of the abductors to turn the others in, (they think there is three people involved) that is the only reason. 2.5 million pounds about 4 million dollars cnd. is being offered and it just might work. All they (one abductor) needs to say is they forced me to go along with it and they might get a couple of months for accessory and when they get out of jail, they have all the money they could imagine, I know they shouldn't get the money but if it brings Maddie home safe and sound then so be it. Money is only money. Maddie is more important.
It is only because the case is so new that it gets most of the attention.

I agree with you. And before any one says, yes, i too want Maddy to be home with her parents.
What i feel is outrageous is the use of celebrity to get things going.
I'm sorry, but once in a while, when a child goes missing (and they go missing everyday but we only hear about the few) and the news gets hold of it, you can bet that Beckham, or Rooney or some other millionaire idiot celeb who does bugger all for the country, will get some free publicity by saying something they will probably forget about later that night when soaking in their £100000 hot tub.
It is obvious we all want Maddy back but to shove celebs in our faces telling us how much they are going to give for information, just makes the story not about Maddy anymore, but about which celeb has offered what.

You obviously don't have children. If you do I'm confused. Would you not gladly accept the offer in desperation if it meant the possibility of having your precious little girl back from the clutches of a monster? Yes we know millions of children are suffering, but so are people of all ages. We could say why not make the rich share their wealth with the poor but then but that's another argument. What do you do when there's so much poverty around the world? No matter how much money we pour into 3rd world countries it doesn't seem to make much difference anyway as they keep producing child after child into poverty. I'm not saying that to be heartless as like many of us we give what we can to charity but just for once can't we stop thinking about the moral aspect of the situation and think of what this sweet little girl must be going through no matter what the price? There's a difference between being poor and being abducted (and goodness knows what else).

The reward doesnt make much difference as the people who may know somthing are in the algarve and they cannot acept the reward as in there country they can get accused of with holding information if a reward involved so now if any ones knows anything concrete they not gonna say as they get accussed of with holding information because of a reward this is why rewards dont always work

There is something fishy to this case. My friends and I have said this from the day she went missing. But whoever has planned this so called abduction will pay for it. I do hope that Maddie is found safe and alive. It seems to me like an inside job. The parents must of been watched every 30 minutes checking upon the children. I say it is someone who must of been finishing work and knew the lay out of the hotel complex. Why did they not have CCTV cameras around the hotel knowing that children go and stay there, look how near the pool was and the beach to the hotel, any child could of got out and drowned. At least in the UK CCTV does have it benefits if anything like this happened. I know we all moan about it being a Big Brother state, but on the other hand it is safety for our children in this bad society.
This is the official website for Maddie.
Take a look.

I agree - it is totally out of proportion.
Yes it is sad that this has happened, and yes, I hope she is found or returned unharmed, but there are hundreds of children at risk in the UK right now, who need help, not to mention the millions across the world.
Maybe one is more important than the many?? I don't know - I will leave that up to you and your conscience to decide!

There ought to be some uncooked nerves being twanged on the McCann camp or they could forget approximately approximately what's being stated or they could take steps to easily teach their innocence. Are they systematically choosing off each and every person that would not have self belief their very week tale? Have we now in the united kingdom have been given to have self belief each and every little thing the McConns let us know we ought to, i'm just about specific that the regulation helps us to make our very own minds up. whilst they ultimately are available front of a jury will they coach each and every member earlier the trial starts off to sparkling them or they're going to sue them to? the full factor is a farce yet no longer a humorous one. They pair of them make me desire to be violently unwell on each and every occasion I see their twisted faces on television.
