Sure, just as there are professional gamblers (and there are). The trick in poker is to bet bigger when you have a better hand, the trick in day trading is to ride big moves. If you don't mind another analogy, think of it surfing and catching the big wave.
As for me, I just get wet. And that is the thing with day trading. Some are good at it. Some are lucky. And a whole lot of folks get hosed. Since you are asking, good luck.

Day traders can and do make a lot of money. But they all are very skilled in technical analysis (fundamentals are worthless on day trades), have a ton of money to invest (otherwise commissions will eat you up, and they are trading relatively small moves in price) and they are willing to spend the entire day in front of the computer screen (as it is very fast paced). One really good day trader is Harry Boxer and you can go to his web sight for more info at www.thetechtrader.com. Good luck!.

It depends on the market conditions, but in general day trading doesn't work. During a bull market, day trading really works for the majority of traders. It's very rare for traders to make money in any market condition, and most of those traders are in large institutions with the ability to move markets with big money.
As an individual trader, you have to constantly be wary of fake moves by professional money as they trap the majority of traders and then turn the market direction on a dime. Swing traders who hold positions for days and weeks are much more likely to be successful than daytraders.

Though day trading is not every-body's cup of tea, yet it is the main source of income for hundreds of thousands of people. It works for them most of the time and for many others - at times.

It works if you have some fundamental help, or you are an expert in reading the market and its emotions, or studying the graph.
If any of your answers are no, then you need to consult technical analysts.

Ofcourse..... but may not be in a way you wish it to be!!
It's a very tricky thing since markets have turned very very volatile these days. Be prepared for losses and then go for the trading.
Use "stop loss" technique to limit your losses. That's a must in these days.
Best luck.
