more than likely you probably have a bent rim on it causing this to happen, you can take it to a tire shop, and they can check the rim and see if that's it ,but from the way you described the shimmy it sure sounds like that's whats wrong with it,but having it checked will help to find it,good luck with it,

This could be either your alignment or your tires. Are the treads on the tires worn? If so, then your tires are probably worn to the point of causing the steering wheel to shimmy. If the treads aren't worn, they might need to be rotated and balanced. Or it could simply be your alignment is off.

I have had it happen when the tires were out of balance. I thought the mechanic was kidding but told him to balance the front tires anyway, it cleared up the shimmy. It was a company vehicle and the mechanic worked for the company.

Could be any of the following:
-Bent rim
-Unbalanced tires
-Bad tires
Have it checked out.
Also, as for the shimmying when you step on the brake, the most common thing is a warped rotor. You can have this checked, and if this is the problem, have it lathed smooth.

I'd have to say a bent rim, or a buldge in your front tire from hitting a pot hole or curb.
