Like most hang-on filters, you should have some way of adjusting the flow, if not the air. If not, I don't see this as a problem for a fish-only tank - you just get extra filtration. If you've got inverts that are filter feeders, you may need to turn the skimmer off right after feeding so their food doesn't all disappear. If you feed around the same time every day, you might want to consider putting the skimmer on a timer so the food has a chance to distribute through the tank, but you won't have to worry about remembering to turn the skimmer back on.

It really shouldn't matter, just make sure that its not making a strong current because then the fish can become stressed if they are fighting to stay in one spot because the current is so strong. My protein skimmer is for a 100 gallon and I have a 50 gallon. In my opinion that means It gets twice as clean, twice as fast. :D

That shouldn't be a problem - it never hurts to have extra. The only concern you might have is the water flow (I'm not familiar with the Berlin brand so I don't know how it works).

That should work fine, but you need to watch the flow. Make sure the flow is not disturbing your sand on the bottom of your tank, which will affect your fishes ability to breathe and swim. Ultimately they will die if they are getting sand in their gills.

you dont need a big skimmer, but i think its just fine. mines the other way around. i got a 50g with a 20g skimmer. but its still going well. others actually dont use one at all but not recommended for begginers.

adjust the air flow through the skimmer with the red knob,,,, it doesnt have to be overflowing into the cup all the time,,, the protiens can collect on top of the foam in the chamber,,, when you feed them or once a day,,, adjust the knob till it overflows,, that skims off the top of the foam,,,,then back it off again till next time
