Man You Should Go For Either LG Or Sony.I'll Personally Recommend LG Because They Cost Less And Are More Reliable.I've Got 2 DVD-RW,Both LG.They Are Going Strong For The Last 5 Years Without Any Hiccups.Though I Write In Almost A Regular Basis.Best Of Luck. Thanks For Asking.

If it is on clearance for $10.00 after mail in rebates it will fail in 6 months or less. I have worn out a Cyndyne CD-R/W, LG DVD-ROM-CD-R/W burners. Both worked really well. The cyndyne unit went through 9 of the 50 pack CD-R's that I use of the Fuji film brand while it had 40 percent of the usable life left (I bout it used). The Cyndyne brand is out of business *grumbles*... The LG I got was purchased new at my local computer guru's store, It lasted for 2 years and 5 mother-board's and 4 hard drives and is still running in a Friends computer because I could no longer use it as my remaining mother-board's are no longer fast enough to run it...
I recommend the LG or LiteOnIt brand's these days. Also Sony and Panasonic work well.
Do NOT get a verbatim they stink they will fail in 6 months or less. I had a disk in one during a power failure and when the computer powered backup the CD shattered in the drive. Stupid 3 month warranty *grumbles incoherently*.

I did a lot of searching for comments at all the techy sites Plextor is #1 consistently. Reading reviews from non-techy users is not a good thing to do. Decision is ultimately cost versus performance/reliability.
I've had (some not by choice) HP, Lite-On, BenQ, Plextor, K-whatever, and I am totally sold on Plextor.
BenQ, I bought for price, died after a few weeks and was replaced by a refurb that lasted 2 hours and then they refused to do anything about it.
K-whatever, died an early death.
Lite-On died with intermittent failures
HP never died but didn't perform well
I still have 2 Plextors and they are consistent, burn any cd dvd I have thrown at it.
downside - they are usually the most pricy.
Google "dvd burner reviews" and make your own decision. Don't even read non-tech emotional comments. For me it is worth the extra $$ for something I can rely on AND has top performance.

Try BENQ it really works good.Im using it. Lot of my frnds are using Sony,Lg,Samsung but compared to those BenQ is better. My drive is opening some DVD's & CD's which are not running in other drives. And 1 more thing for other companies u get 1year warranty but BenQ gives 2years Warranty.
