~~~ I didn't really know my Grandparents. My fathers' Dad lived three thousand miles away and his Mother died when he was a baby. I do remember a summer vacation when we visited him and he gave me an empty honey jar shaped like a bear. I was five and loved that stupid jar like it was my baby. That's the only gift I got from him because I never saw him. My Mothers' Father died before I was born,so I never met him. My Mom is Hispanic,and my Grandmother couldn't speak English. what a drag. Oh well, she also lived three thousand miles away, and we hardly ever saw her. So, I didn't get any gifts from her either. But, I'll always remember the empty honey jar.~~~
I only had one set of grandparents alive when I was growing up. They had 16 children and countless grandchildren. The only tangible gift I ever got was a sleep shirt when I was 23, and I absolutely love that shirt.
The things I treasure most from my grandparents are the stories they told me of their life in Italy. They told me about where they lived in Sicily and how they lived on a farm. They told about what their day to day living was like. Grandpa told stories about him serving in the army in WW I . They told what it was like to come to the USA by way of Ellis Island. I have old pictures they gave me as well so I can look at them and remember family long gone now. I also have many recipes committed to memory of Grandma's wonderful Italian food. I love to cook as she did. Their gifts are the stories and history of my ancestry and will always remain priceless to me.
My grandparents were from the depression era, not a lot of cash, gifts were usually in the form of baked goods and fishing trips. Grandpa taught me what people want, grandma taught me what Jesus wants.
All of the above, my grandfather gave me savings bonds every christmas... that was pretty cool.
My grandmother gave me tons of family knowledge that came in handy for my own geneaology reserch. It helped put a face to a name.
Probably some toys, but grandma gave me half dollars and her gift of warmth and sage advice. I miss her.
One of my grandmother's gave me a dog when I was young and that dog loved me and followed me wherever I went. My other grandmother used to teach me things about the Bible when I was young and I loved staying with her because she would make me chocolate pudding and coffee and kept a little toy car that dated back to Word War 11 for me to play with when I was at her house.
Lots of toys but the greatest thing was their love which I still carry inside to this day, long after the toys were lost, taken or broken.
