Okay. For restoring a dell pc u need to know about somethin called system restore. If its a relatively new PC(2-3 years old) i am sure u have it. System restore takes a portion of a hard drive and its gives u the ability to restore to an earlier point. However, some people dont like System restore taking a bit of their harddisk so they turn it off but i am sure u didnt didnt... follow these steps.
Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore. Click the Restore My Computer to an earlier time, next. The time should be when u first bough it. People said that if u have firewall or security software turn it off cus it might get confused and stop it...i gave a link to all about system restore. Read it if u need anything else.
Edit:
I know there is a shortcut, incase u cant log on and u need restored, i think that shortcut is f11 like someone just said...i prefer to log on and do it makes me feel safer but thats on a personal level but just saying its both same thing.

You cant go wrong with either of these options:
Calling up dell and them giving you tips/instructions
And if u want to save your stuff before restoring either:
Making dics of your stuff then using a restore disk
My favourite option: Calling in a dell worker and them do it all for you saving your stuff also, may cost but is well worth it as its all done properly with no hitches!
You cant go wrong with any of that trust!

You should have a recovery disk which came with it. Make sure you save your files first! Or, conceivably, you'll have a program named "Dell" or thereabouts on your machine which will enable a restoration to default settings.

your computer came with a CD titled "restore" or "recovery" when you put that disc in the drive and boot the computer, it will completely erase ALL of your data and restore the computer to the way it was when you bought it
