PATA and SATA cannot run at the same time but your can make a cold boot loader from either the SATA or the PATA harddisk. Once you get the right harddisk loaded via BIOS priority load, then of course you would be able to see the other harddisk.

Obviously.
All motherboards which support SATA will also have an IDE channel for backwards compatibility. Plug your PATA hard disk into the IDE channel (usually a single one) and your SATA hard disk into any of the SATA ports.
