The only answer I can think of is that hip hop has become extremely mainstream. If you really look around hip hop is infiltrating everyone's live so it is easier to be lashed out at. Take for instance Honky Tonk Bodunkadunk , it is a country song, but the word has hip hop origins...
I think that if content of the music is an issue than it should be addressed within all genres of music and not just hip hop. But then again we have the lovely 1st amendment that protects our freedom of speech so perhaps we should change the issue. Perhaps it should be parents we need to be more aware of the messages our children are receiving through what we buy them or allow them to have...but it is unfair to hush an artist because we don't agree with the message regardless of genre.

I agree that this Hip-Hop should not be criticized quite so much as the Death Metal and Hate Core. I have seen this Hip Hop on telly, and he seems to be enjoying himself and having good time. The Death Metal is horrible--far too many innocent soldiers and civilians are dying from the radioactive from these weapons. And Hate Core--I hope that he loses in the bye-elections as he is not representative of his constituent. Yes, I say let this Hip-Hop have his fun--he spreads the joyous message.

hip hop is a little more mainstream than death metal and such, hip hop has a good beat but a bad message and lots of sex, and violence. The fact that hip hop is all over the news, and channels is why it's being targeted. If death metal became mainstream then the government and everyone would be all over it. Hip hop stars shouldn't get the attention they get anyway. All they talk about is bling, and killing people :) They are bad rolemodels to youth, and yet youth looks up to them...

I guess because hip hop is more main stream. The media and conservatives get more publicity from attacking them. That and many of the metal listeners have an anti-establishment mind set in that sense so they don't care. I remember a band got in trouble for the messages they put out and it increased their fan base.

Does no one remember Tipper Gore? Metal caused the warning labels and edited content to come about. Yes Metal is more hardcore that hip hop, however hip hop is more easily copied. If a metal song says "A trooper kills thirty soldiers with a lightning encased bayonet from satan." and a hip hop song says, "Kill the cops with your nine." Which is easier to do?
But, I don't care about either one. I think people are stupid for allowing outside influences like music to effect their lifestyle choices.

Because death metal and hate core is only popular amoungst the extreme minority while hip-hop is everywhere. It is just opposite. Prussian Blue has made front page news while hip-hop noise makers go under the pc radar.

The media has and will again.
Hip hop is being targeted now because of the racial undertones of the Don Imus/Al Sharpton conflict.
