I just installed more RAM two 512MB dimms with the same specs. Now when i start vista it says that windows has failed to boot. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. please repair your installation.
Now I switched the computer off from the main power supply and then restarted it and now it works fine.
Should i be worried?

It should be fine, sometimes the POST doesn't pick up the new dimms off the get go. A second boot fixes this

Most probably, your DIMMs would not have fixed into the slots correctly. Try removing them and inserting them into the slots, pressing each down with some force. There can also be a problem if you have inserted the two DIMMs into two slots of different colors (in case you have four DIMM slots and two modules). You should insert the modules in the same color slots (alternate slots, usually).

I don't believe you have any problems. It sounds like your OS simply didn't recognize the new RAM initially.

Go to http://www.belarc.com and download and install the Belarc Advisor. In the report it generates it will tell you exactly how much RAM is installed in each slot and will give you the confidence that everything is fine.

Another thing you can do is to go to these web sites and run their RAM detection utility and see what it reports for RAM quantity and how much is in each slot.

I don't think you have any issues at all, but I think you need to verify that your 2 X 512 MB sticks are being fully recognized.

Hope this helps.

ram ,dont have nothing to do with vista performance.do the followin just 2 make sure everythin is alright:restart ur pc and press DELETE before windows, in the page that comes in front of you ,the quantity of ram will be display. if you see that you have 2 slots with 512mb each ,its ok ,if not the slot must be clean.after that just click on ESC and click next.

Nothing to worry about. It's just that vista is always checking itself out. Now that it recognizes the new RAM, it will not bother you anymore.

It was probably just a small glitch with vista, give them time to work out the bugs, if it restarted fine your good to go....If it didnt start then I would worry......Otherwise enjoy your new setup!
