I'm using a Read-Writeable CD-ROM and a CD-R that's completely blank and my PC is telling me the disc is either full or not writable. I've used several blank CDs, both CD-Rs and CD-RWs, and all of them get the same message. Last time I used this CD-ROM it worked just fine. The only significant activity I've had is using a registry cleaner recently.

This may or may not work, but go to control panel/ system/hardware/device manager...go to where it says IDE/ ATA Atapi Controllers. There should be two listings for Primary IDE and two for Secondary IDE. Right click on each of them and select uninstall. However, if you happen to know exactly which one is for the Cd burner, you can just do that one. If you just have one cd rom, and one hard drive, than more than likely the cd rom will be the secondary IDE, but im not sure which one. I would just uninstall all of them just to be sure. Then restart the computer, and the found hardware wizard will should identify and reinstall the ide channels. Also, it wouldnt hurt to try to clean the lens, I doubt thats the problem, but you never know. Hope this helps.

Have you checked the status of the device in control panel, system, device manager? You may have deleted the driver for the burner when you altered your registry. I suggest trying to install the correct driver for the CD burner. Good Luck

There are 2 types of CD disks, CD-R(W) and CD+R(W)
Note that one type has a "-" and the other has a "+"
Check the manual for your CD Drive to see which type of disk it needs.
