Happy enough for Serbia that they won, however don't assume that means they had anything like the best song. It was ok but nothing brilliant. I confess I was more surprised to see Bosnia Herzegovina voting for Serbia, considering the recent history between the two nations.
Eurovision is an immensely political animal. Hardly any country gave top points to any nation that did not border them or is in some way close to them, whether ethnically or economically.
The only nations that genuinely seemed to vote according to public taste were the UK and Ireland. And even Ireland gave seven points to the dire UK entry.
It's still a thoroughly enjoyable show, though. It's just not taken at all seriously in western Europe. In the UK it's a bit of joke contest.
I'm in the UK, by the way. And our lot actually got about the number of points that song deserved.

I wouldn't mind the fact that they won if they were actually any good! i would have thought that either Ukraine or Romania would win and Serbia wouldn't be that popular. I think from where the UK is one of the few countrys who didn't put them in our top 10 (we're damn right aswell..) though these days its all political voting isnt it.

Serbia was well better than the Ukraine. (Which was a camp disgrace to Europe)
But I still think either Hungary or Georgia should've won.

As first, Ruta, this is our first win, before yugoslavia had won, and the competition wasn't held in belgrade, it was held in zagreb.
I'm very glad that we won, all you britts and irish you were the two last countries, and you feel bitter, but don't blame our song. Our song has the quality, ukraine had a very very stupid song, what was that einz zwei, come on people you think that song deserved to win.SERBIA No. 1

It's getting way too political and has nothing to do with the music anymore.
I only watch it to hear what Terry Wogan has to say. I think he's hilarious. I'm from the UK by the way, but living in North Cyprus.

I'm from the U.K. and i'm glad we didn't win. Maybe now everyone can forget about Scooch and they can get jobs that don't involve music.
