Include age combined with youthful energy. I am 58, but a highly skilled worker with multiple software skills. I can out perform any twenty something at computer skills. But no one will hire me because 'old people don't know about those things...'

Agism is the most extreme and socially destructive bigotry in our society, because it represents people mistreating other on the basis of something that we will all go through if we are healthy enough to endure into our older years.

Do you practice it? Most younger people do.

Well... when we lived in Baltimore near Federal Hill, people tried to poison our dogs, painted swastikas on the side of our house, and according to one nice neighbor they were conspiring to try to plant drugs in our house to try to get us arrested. When I was a kid, two other kids tried to kill me by throwing me down the concrete stairs of the football stadium. .... Take your pick, I could go on and on about it. I am sure they were all *good* Christians.

I agree with the guy above. I worked as a software engineer for over 19 years. Now over 50, no one will hire me. Is that worse than someone trying to kill me, perhaps, because without a job the result will be the same.

Primarily some verbal ridicule for being gay. Most of this has come from strangers who were heckling crowds of gay people. Some of it came from my parents when I first came out (30 years ago).

Luckily, I have never faced employment or housing discrimination, primarily because of my field and the region of the country where I live.

On an individual basis the worst people have treated me is by cramming their religion down my throat and threatening me with eternal damnation for being who I was born. I have been called ridiculous names and had stupid stereotyped gestures made at me.
I won't even go into the governmental abuse or past history.

I was stoned and chased by three
christians when I was 15 years old
because they suspected I was gay.

After that incident, I took up boxing.
I am not a fan of physical violence,
but I'll be damned if I will not defend
myself when needed.
