Germany is six hours earlier than Eastern time. To get technical, since right now Germany is observing summer time (daylight savings time), Germany is seven hours earlier than EST, Eastern Standard Time-- spring forward, fall back, and all that. But all (or at least most) locations in the Eastern Time zone are also observing daylight savings, so the difference on the clock is still six hours. When it's noon in Berlin, it's 6am in New York.
