You need to check newspapers and local flyers. Most people don't advertise so the best bet is to just drive around and look for the signs on corners.

Best place for me to check is Craig's List. People start advertising a week in advance. Also they have virtual garage sales. Just use the link I put in. On the right pick your country, state, and city, or as close as you can get to it. Hope this helps.
