As far as cost: Current spot gold price is $670.10 per troy ounce as of 13 May 2007. The bullion coin that comes closest to absolutely pure is the Canadian Maple Leaf, which is commonly available at slightly above spot (as of right now, about $705.10)

24 carat is actually the softest of most gold products. The higher the gold content the softer it is. Weight depends on how much of the stuff you have! Value changes daily just like the stock market.
