I got lenses recently and the doctor prescribed a sterile eye drop which I was supposed to put before inserting my lenses. Now the eye drop has finished but I was wondering if I really need to buy another one. Are these drops required??

No. You can just put regular all-purpose solution for soft contacts if you have soft contacts. (It's sterile too.)

My sister and eye just use all-purpose cleaning solution to wet our eyes before putting in conact lenses and when they get dried out. We've been doing this for 10 years.

It washes pollen or dust out before trapping anything under the lens that can cause eye irritation.

I am 66 and my eyes have dried out and just learned this week the problem I was having was because my eyes are so dry that, they are scratching the eye ball when I blink.
So I am using the sterile drops numerous times a day and in just 4 days they are much better.

So I say yes it is important to wash your eyes before you put your lenses in. Keep using them to protect your eyes.

As you and your eyes age, they will develop problems you cannot control so take care of the ones that you can control.

Be careful. It depends what you mean by " regular eye drops " UNLESS they are drops meant for use WITH contacts , you will have a problem unless you wait at least 15 or 20 minutes before putting your contacts on. If the drops are meant for use with contacts, it will say so on the bottle. If they are meant for using with contacts, then you can use them even while your contacts are in your eyes.

It depends on why your eye doctor gave them to you. If there is a serious medical reason for it, I would say YES. Get them...your eyes are your outlet to the world. Protect them. If there is no medical reason for it. Then NO. But do exactly what your doctor says.
