No, you do not need to show American money in order to fly out of Nigeria. Think about it -- what would you do if you were a British or German tourist and all you had was euros?

There's all sorts of variations of a woman (or man) trapped in a foreign country in distress, needing a little bit of cash for a hotel bill or something. (I'd never heard that line of needing to prove they have American dollars before, that's new, but still a lie.) They change accounts more often than they change underwear, and they pick up strangers to victimize from all sorts of online dating services.

Bottom line: never send cash to somebody you've only met online, no matter how much they seem to be your soul mate. Sorry to hear "she" stole your money.

I, as an American, would never do NG unless I go there with a group of Nigerians from the US that know me well. I may do such in Dec. as one Ghanaian-Nigerian lady I know in the US is getting married in the second largest city in Africa, Lagos, NG, her father's country.

I know that you take a public bus or train they may try to drug you and rob you while you are asleep. This happened to someone that I worked with. He was on the public bus and didn't think anything of taking a cigarette from a local... it was laced with some drug that knocked him out. When he came to all his stuff was gone and so were the locals.
