A general lack of interest is commonly cited as a universal symptom, but that may also be caused by a drug addiction. Be careful when trying to treat a boredom sufferer, for he or she may be bored and such a person can be irrational and dangerous.
Boredom is a type of brain disease that can strike at any time. Bored is often confused with board. Little research has been done on boredom, but supposed causes of the disease are known colloquially as boring, and a victim of boredom is said to be bored. Boredom is most prevalent in suburban areas, though it is known to occur elsewhere.

I think it from lack of using our intellect. I always say; "People who are bored are boring people"! We need to find some hobbies and things to do that are interesting. When I have free time, I not spend it in front of the TV. I learn new things on the Inet and this helps me converse better with people about things they know. An example is Mechanics. I may not know a lot, but, if a person is talking about Hot Roding an Engine I can talk about this. I can talk about different cams and direct drive timing gears and electric water pumps. Also, I find things to actually do during my free time. Now I work on a friend's boat to get it ready for summer. I not a professional, but, his Control Box is not giving the Engine full throttle. So, I open it up and look and learn how this work and what need replaced to fix. So, instead of being bored, I can drink a few beers and learn something and fix the boat.
So, as I said at first; I use my intellect to learn and do interesting things and I never get bored.
This is how I see it, and, there are other opinons. What work for me may not work for someone else.

our brain perceives reality in terms of a number of "experiences" in a unit time.... thus we feel cold, hot, amused, angry ,happy, disappointed, sleepy... etc in a given time period. There are things called sensory deprivation tanks... the volunteer is put into one where it is absolutely dark, absulutely quiet and the temperature is kept a level where you neither feel cold or hot, you also are prevented from moving. Within a rather short time the time *stops* for the person inside. They no longer know wht time it is what day it is, or indeed wht exactly is going on. That is because the number of experiences the brain perceives was reduced to zero. Boredom is a little like that - the number of experiences drops to an insignificant level.

Boredom is when you have a lack of something to do. An intense sign of boredom is MXit (on your cellular phone go to www.mxit.co.za/wap, and download it). It just shows that you are frustrated an, well, bored.

Boredom is when you don't know where your life is taken you and you feel out of control. It's time then to decide what you want to be when you grow up and get it done.
