Hey guys, here's my problem I am currently looking for a new car I have been driving a manual for a while now but I am finding it a real hassle to drive in heavy traffic situations so hence the reason i have been looking for an automatic car. I was just wondering if people had any ideas of what I should get. I am looking for something sporty, quick, economical on fuel but a car that i can make a real head turner. Have about 12k(aus) to spend. Any ideas ppl?

I am not too happy about giving up the manual but it's just annoying these days.

honda autoboxes shift well, in fact much better than most and seem to last very well. many rear wheel drive toyota's use asin warner automatics these also shift well and last everyone elses automatics seem to shift in a scytzofrantic manner, never knowing what gear to be in at any givin time or when to delay a shift under part throttle or to drop down 1 gear or 3 on a down shift and these so called manual shift automatics are even worse junk [the shift happens a long time after the next gear has been selected and fuel is cut to the engine during the shift whitch makes it even longer before the expected happens

Get the VW New Beetle with the Triptonic transmission.
For your purposes, it's ideal. This transmission you can drive like an automatic in rush-hour traffic, but you can drive it like a stick without a clutch for a sportier ride. The new 2.5 liter engine is nice and peppy coupled with this transmission, and good on gas. I think my red NB is a real head turner. Check out the forum, there are a lot of peeps from Australia on there.
Mostly guys too. See the mods and styling changes you can make to this car, the performance and solid quality, and most of all, test-drive one. Just between you and me, they corner like a baby Porshe even with the OEM suspension setup. You'll love it, it fulfills each and every need/want you listed here. Hope to see you on the forum :)

I was the same way. I drove manuals all my life till last summer when I bought an automatic. I'm already sick of it. It's so boring. So my suggestion is if you buy an automatic make sure it keeps it's resale value just in case you get sick of it too and you want to go back.
