If you have had two kids chances are the doctor is right. Kegal exercies done right will improve the condition. A prolapse does cause incontinence butnot usually just do the exercises. If you have a hard time doing them you can get a Kegal machine from www.pyramidcollection.com Surgery is not going to fix stress incontinence. If the Kegals do not help there is medication for the problem. It is not an uncommon problem in women who have had children but it is not normal.

If a prolapse is the problem, an operation would give you some relief, but that is not the only possible reason for incontinence.
Constipation can put a lot of pressure on the bladder making it hard to hold urine. If you can feel the fullness of the bowel in through the walls of the vagina, then this could be your problem. Regular motions, a high fiber diet, and plenty of water, can help solve this.
Bladder training can help. This is where you empty your bladder say every half hour while awake, then gradually over several weeks increase the time in between, until there is a few hours. What this does is retrain the body to recognize the sensation of a full bladder.
Also pelvic floor (Kengal) exercises are a must. Tense for 5 seconds then release, gradually building up to longer and stronger contractions. They should be done in lots of twenty, five to eight times a day, more if your leaking often. Not only will they improve bladder control, but they can improve your sex life as well. Are you sure that you are doing them correctly? And are you doing them often enough?
To help you locate the muscle that you are supposed to be tensing, find a private time. When lying down place a finger into your vagina, and start your exercise. If done properly you should feel both a tightening and a lifting (deepening) of the vagina. If your tensing at the back passage, you have the wrong muscle.
To see if its successful, when you go to the toilet, try starting and stopping the urine stream. If you can't then you need to do more repeats more often. Don't do this all the time as that can lead to involuntary retention (holding on to some urine instead of emptying completely.)
If all else fails ask your doctor for a referral to an Urologist.

Every female need to learn how to do pelvic floor exercises. I learned this in my 20's and you can do pelvic floor exercises anywhere, shopping, waiting for a Bus, Taxi. However if you do not know how to do pelvic floor, then I suggest you attend Pilates. You will learn this and other exercises which will improve your posture and help you understand how your own body works. Education for life. If the Doc states you 'just' need to do pelvic floor exercises than the chances are Surgery is not a option.
