dont you think that the woman needs to make the decision to be a mother or not before she conceives ? if a man and a woman choose not to use any birth control , then they understand that they could possibly be parents . why should the baby pay for them making the wrong decision ? a woman should have the choice to have a baby or not , just make that decision before you go to bed .

For all those that say there is no foolproof method of birth control, I say BS. If you hold a penny between your knees, you won't get pregnant!

Abstinence has resulted in zero unplanned pregnancies. Abortion is murder, plain and simple. Anyone who has held their child in their arms knows this to be true.

The only time I believe that an abortion should even be considered is due to the health of the mother or in cases of rape or incest.

To chefchemp:

Never once did I mention any pledge of abstinence or not to be educated about sex. You don't have to have sex to survive, and you have control over your urges, so exercise it!

And on the issue of sex ed, that should be done by the parents, not the school system.

Birth control only stops a percentage of pregnancies for one.

Second it is not right to force a woman to carry a baby for a term. And if the mother is forced, do you really think the child will turn into a well respected member of society, when the mother doesn't want to raise the child.

Adoption, I'm sure you are crying. But there aren't enough families to adopt that many babies. All it will turn into is another understaffed overworked problem that people like you want to ignore.

Or perhaps we should make sex illegal? How? It can't happen.

I'm sorry, but there are too many problems in society to accommodate your views on abortion.

LIFE IS NOT FAIR. Stop thinking that it is.

If life was fair some Christian schools that fire single women who decide to have babies. But it is not fair, so single mothers are fired from teaching positions at some christian schools.

If life was fair the catholic church wouldn't have refused to baptize my cousin's baby. She is a single woman, the church didn't think she could contribute to the church. She is a well paid nurse. Money isn't a problem.

Ironically, people who oppose abortion are usually the people causing the abortions because of issues like the above. People with a conservative outlook will not help a bastard child. And they will try to stop society from forming safety nets for children that need help. And then they preach about abortion.

seems like everybody has made a pretty convincing argument. i will make one that was not mentioned. there is a direct correlation between the crime levels dropping and the time roe vs. wade was passed. most abortions procedures done on woman that are young, single and in the lower income bracket. crime begin falling in the late eighties/early 90's. roe vs wade was in 73. the kids that would come to be 18 around this time that were aborted weren't around. another thing is, that a women that has the right to choose usually makes the decision based on if she is ready for the child or not. if a unwed young poor mother is forced into having that child and not ready to raise it, chances are this child would suffer from neglect. then, a poorly raised unwanted child with deep pyscilogical issues would be running around. yes, it is harsh to suggest that lets start killing babies to prevent future crime. and yes its not a convincing argument to back this but its just another side to the story.

That would be the responsible idea! But, many people don't care what the out come is. Pro-choice starts the moment you climb in bed with someone! Knowing that the end result might end up getting someone pregnant.
But many people know abortion is legal so it helps guide and supports them to make stupid decisions!!
Happy Mother's day! And mother's day doesn't happen when the baby is born. Mother's are mother's the moment they find out their pregnant. Because for 9 months you take care of the baby. And cautionously wouldn't want to eat, drink or harm the child waiting to be born.
But, to answer your question yes your so right! :)

In a perfect world that is what would happen but man/woman are not perfect. It is a choice that should be made by both but sometimes it is only the woman facing the choice. While I agree abortion should not be used as birth control there are cases where it should be used.

Your right...it is a tough choice/decision...yet we are given the right to choose...it is our freedom...an the persons or person making that choice will have to live with it...it is sad that the unborn child pays the ulimate price...their life...the best thing some one can do is give ...many options besides ending the childs life...including educating people before they conceive

"dont you think that the woman needs to make the decision to be a mother or not before she conceives "

Yes, that would be nice. It just isn't realistic.

Birth control, even when used properly, fails sometimes.

Some people get pregnant while they are using birth control pills, ortho evra shots, condoms, etc.

Although these methods of birth control are really very good (like 97% effective), sometimes, there is a pregnancy anyways.

And when there is an unplanned pregnancy, it's 100% okay for a woman to make the decision to terminate at a young stage (such as 1-12 weeks).

Cheers

It takes two to tango. Thats why we have the Holy Bible as our moral foundation so that we will not get astray/lost. But most men choose their own way to destruction and this is the results of it. Well, the time is near when God will put all things in order and so as the prince of peace will set in His throne of glory, the millenial peace will make no debate whatsoever.

Abstinence?

A statistic:
88% of students who make an abstinence only pledge will have sex before marriage.
A study of 12,000 adolescents in the April Journal of Adolescent Health documents what sex education proponents have been saying for years: teens who pledge to remain virgins until marriage are more likely to take chances with other kinds of sex. The report by Yale and Columbia University researchers reveals that teens who pledge abstinence:

* are more likely to have oral and anal sex than other teens who have not had intercourse;
* are just as likely to have STDs as their non-abstinent peers;
* if they're boys and haven't had intercourse, are 4 times more likely to have had anal sex;
* are 6 times more likely to have oral sex than teens who have remained abstinent but not as part of a pledge;
* are less likely to use condoms during their first sexual experience;
* are less likely to get tested for STDs, or to know their STD status.

Kids who pledge abstinence are told that they're bad if they have sex. Thus, they refuse to prepare for it, and are less equipped to cope with it or its aftermath. They are torn between the power of their sexual interests and the desire to be a good person (as defined by the abstinence curriculum). Lacking decision-making skills or real knowledge to lean on, they simplistically decide that non-intercourse sex isn't sex. This allows them to have their (abstinence) cake and eat their (pleasure) cake, too.
