I'm sorry, but the rules for citizenship are the same for everyone. It might take some individuals longer to get all of the necessary paperwork taken care of, but the amount of work necessary, and the times of residency are fixed by law and are uniform for all people.
As to your other question -- of course it's right that you should pay taxes. Do you drive on the roads? Do you enjoy the protection of Police, Fire, and Emergency Services, etc? These things, and everything else that governments do, need to be paid for. Why should you who enjoy these services not have to pay for them?

I'm from England, married to a US citizen, still waiting after 7 years being here and working, paying taxes the whole time.
My point of view is that it takes as long as it takes. Expensive too, I'm in for about 3,000 dollars US for all my paperwork fees, medical, etc etc.
There's rules. I have to follow them.
Does it make me mad, when they give away citizenships to formerly illegal workers, yes. Can i do anything about it, no. As you stated I can pay taxes but have no rights to vote or change anything.
Here I patiently sit, waiting for the time to go by. LOL
