This is the first year I have had sprouts already started on my bulbs. I was told to leave them uncovered but it seems that the sun would burn them. I have had these bulbs for years and don't want to lose them.

I would bury them at their normal depth, so depending on the size of the growth, the sprouts may or may not be covered. If the exposed portion is greater than one inch, you may experience some damage without protection. Cover the growth with something that will allow some light to filter through but not expose them completely - good choices are hay and shreded leaves. Another choice would be to temporarily cover the new planting with a lawn chair, milk crate, or something similar that would provide shade but still allow ventilation for a few hours when the sun is brightest in this part of the garden. You only need to do that for about a week until the growth is acclimated to the sun.

Depends on if it is a root sprout or a leaf sprout. If the sprouts are coming out the bottom of the bulb, it is a root sprout and needs to be buried. Leaf sprouts (from the top) do not need to be buried (but you may bury if you wish)
