There are several relatively simple traits that can be observed in humans, including being able to taste a chemical called PTC (or not). It is relatively simple because it seems to be determined by a single gene, and tasting is dominant, so approximately 70% of the people in the US are tasters. You would have to find an extended family (where the grandparents are alive, and there are lots of kids) and request that they participate, and make charts of the patterns of tasting vs. non-tasting within that family.
From that, you might be able to determine whether certain people are homozygous or heterozygous, and thus predict the ratio of tasters to non tasters in their offspring.
